The Float Wrap is one of the newest products I am offering. They are really cool. 

The Float Wrap is a new, unique option to display images. Float Wraps are similar to Gallery Wraps or Standout mounted prints in that they add dimension by extending out from the wall.

My family and I went to Colorado to visit my best friend Lauren and her family. We were there for the 4th of July and her sub-division put on a 4th of July Carnival with booths and bounce houses and bands. Lauren talked me in to entering the photo contest while we were there and I JUST got an email from them saying that one of my photos will be on the cover of their neighborhood magazine and I also won a $50 VISA gift card! SO FUN and Lauren and Breliegh will be famous :) !!

Okay, so what's the CONTEST?
SHOOTING AT LOW APERTURE NUMBERS!
If you have a 50mm lens use it, or any other lens where your aperture goes down to 1.8 or 2.8.

This homework is going to be a little tough for anyone using just a "kit" lens (meaning the lens that came with your camera when you bought it.) The reason it'll be tough is because "kit" lenses generally have aperture numbers that go down to 4 or 5.6 at the lowest. It's hard to get background blur at anything above 3.5 unless you have a really long telephoto lens.

If you only have your kit lens and want to participate, head over to B&H and buy a 50mm - it's only around $90 and it ROCKS! You'll LOVE LOVE LOVE it and you'll get some AMAZING photos (that are worth way more than $90!) Here's a direct link (to my favorite store!) : 50mm at B&H


Okay, Contest details ...

CONTEST #2 (for anyone and everyone, professional or non-professional)

Set your aperture to the lowest number you can (depends on your lens!) Anywhere between 1.8 and 2.8 is best. Bribe one of your kiddos (or someone else's....niece or nephew or your best friend's kid) with candy to get them to model for you and start up close. Shoot some close ups of their faces, hands, feet, whatever you think is cutest! Then move back a step. Don't change your aperture - just your feet! After you've taken a few there, take some more steps back and keep on shooting. Finish up by taking some full-length shots (at the same aperture!)

After you've taken a ton of photos, go through them and pick out your 3 favorites. One should be a close up. One should be a mid-range. And one should be a full-length. Size them to 5" wide at 72dpi and send them over! We'll pick our faves and post them up here and on the blog. FUN!!

Here are my samples of what I have been practicing on with my kids:
I am using my 85 mm lens.
My ISO (film speed) is set at 100.
My shutter speed (TV) is set at 1/250.
My F-stop (AV) is set at 1.8.

When you are shooting your images, REMEMBER move your body!! If you are using a zoom lens, shoot at your lowest settings.

EX: if your lens is a 24mm - 70mm shoot at 24 mm or 50 mm. But DO NOT zoom in or out. Take your first shot FULL LENGTH, then move YOUR BODY closer to do 3/4 length, then move YOUR BODY closer to do the head shot!!

Your ISO needs to stay the same, your F-stop needs to stay the same and your Shutter speed needs to stay the same for all THREE images. (You do not need to shoot all of your children, please just choose ONE to enter in the contest)

"Favorite Things" CONTEST

So I got this idea from one of the blogs I stalk....and thought it would be fun! I have been wanting to do some kind of contest to get my readers involved so I hope you like this one!! ANYONE can participate no matter where you live!! Here goes!!

How many photos do you have of your kids smiling? How many do you have of them laughing? If you're like me, you have a LOT! But what are they so happy about? Why are they laughing? How often do you take pictures of the THINGS that make them happy?


So here is the contest:

The Objective : Shoot your kiddos and their favorite things! Make a list of 5-10 things and take a photo of each one on your list!

The Rules : You can submit anywhere from 5 to 10 photos per child. No more, no less! Your kiddos can be of ANY age (teeny babies and moody teenagers have favorite things, too!) and they HAVE to be in the photos in some way (even if it's just their hands or feet!) Email your images to jennlankford@portraitsbyjenn.com

What to submit : Your photos and a brief description of each "favorite thing" pictured in them. Your kiddos first names and ages. Your name and the city/state/country you live in.

DEADLINE : Sunday, March 1st at Midnight!

The Prize : A super cute camera strap! (may not be this exact one)

This super cute camera strap by vmjess on etsy.com is 58 inches long, and is adjustable to a longer 64 inches or shorter 52- long enough to be work across your body if you like. The part that loops through the camera is 1/2 inch wide- the widest part of the strap is 2 inches. Each strap is unique- but always fresh and fun.
